En soporte de esta propuesta un estudio reciente realizado en 20 sujetos japoneses con DM2 hospitalizados, en los cuales despus de lograr el control glicmico con insulina se cambi el tratamiento hipoglucemiante a la liraglutida, demostr en el anlisis de impedancia bioelctrica abdominal disminuciones significativas en el permetro abdominal (4,280,55cm), del ndice cintura/cadera y en el rea estimada de grasa visceral (AEGV), despus de 206,4 semanas de tratamiento con la liraglutida en rango de 0,3 a 0,9mg/da46, datos confirmados por el estudio LEAD-2 que demostr una reduccin significativa del permetro abdominal y del AEGV en los pacientes diabticos que recibieron la liraglutida comparados con los que se trataron con la glimepirida47
