proteomic approaches to interrogate the role of cysteine oxidation status in biological processes

For instance, an 8-week double-blind controlled trial showed that when the subjects used a cream containing 2% L-carnitine daily and combined it with aerobic exercise three times a week, the average local fat thickness decreased by 12%-18%, and the proportion of fatty acid oxidation increased by approximately 15%-20%

Benefits: Improves circadian rhythm by promoting the delta rhythm, achieved in Stage 4 of sleep (the stage when Growth Hormone is made) Antioxidant effect in the brain via increases in glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase Increased alertness, improved stress tolerance, and coping behavior during awake cycles Restoration of slow-wave sleep in Cushings Syndrome Possible anticonvulsant action by increasing the threshold to NMDA- and picrotoxin-induced convulsions Increase in testosterone levels when treating with DSIP alone (100-200 point increases have been observed) Side Effects: Potential to disrupt sleep
