Christiansen (1910 1975) was a Danish painter who predominantly worked with oil paints. A soft, hazy effect is prominent in his work; using bright but soft colours, Christiansen depicts rural life in a dreamy, gentle way. This painting, dating from the 1950s, does just that: a woman hanging up laundry is framed with soft colours, definitive lines and shapes, and an anonymity that
