Þvílíkar ófreskjur Gender studies There is light and therevlkar freskjur! (What monsters!), the title of this book by Auur Aalsteinsdttir, professor at the humanities department of the University of Iceland, refers to one of the first literary criticisms to appear in Icelandic newspapers. Written by romantic poet Jnas Hallgrmsson it was his description of the Icelandic rhyme tradition that he felt had truly seen better days, it might just have set the tone for literary critics that followed.
